The Ronald McDonald Family Room at UNM Children's Hospital opened in October 2007.

The Ronald McDonald House Family Room is a program of RMHC-NM that brings comfort and care to families with ill children outside the walls of Ronald McDonald House. Located on the 6th floor of the UNM Children's Hospital in the Child Life Unit, the family room is a special respite area for families who have children in the hospital. Here they can grab a cup of coffee, read a magazine, have a quick meal or do a load of laundry while still being only steps away from their ill child’s bedside.
Unlike a Hospital waiting room, the Family Room is uncrowded, calm and very comfortable. When a family enters the room they are greeted by trained volunteers who act as a host or hostess for the room. In the kitchen visitors will find a wide variety of snacks and beverages. Thanks to the generosity of donors, snacks are provided to families at no cost.
Special thanks to UNM Hospital for donating the space and to the Junior League of Albuquerque for their partnership in creating and funding this project.
If you are interested in serving as a volunteer greeter for the Family Room please call Theresa Hughes at 925-2221 or e-mail volunteer7@comcast
There are two ways to donate to the Family Room: make a cash donation or provide gifts in-kind.
