The Ronald McDonald House
The New Mexico Ronald McDonald House is an 18-bedroom facility founded in 1982 to provide a temporary "home-away-from-home" to families with critically ill or injured children who must travel to Albuquerque for medical care. Children undergoing medical treatment need their parents nearby. And, parents need a place away from the hospital where they can relax, attend to daily duties, and find emotional support among families facing similar situations. The Ronald McDonald House is not a hotel or motel, but a warm and caring home-like environment where families sleep, prepare hot meals, and can be close to their ailing children. Outreach Grant Program Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico (RMHC) provides more than just lodging to sick children and their families. RMHC reaches out to meet the needs of the community by awarding grants to not-for-profit, tax exempt organizations that directly benefit children. Grants are funded through fundraising activities sponsored by the McDonalds Operators Association of New Mexico and from a matching grants program available through McDonalds global charity. Donor contributions to Ronald McDonald House Charities are not used for these allocations unless specifically designated by the donor. Beneficiaries of RMHC grants are non-profit organizations that have demonstrated an ability to respond to the needs of children and their families in a definitive, hands-on manner that yields measurable results. RMHC is most interested in programs that benefit children in the area of health care, however, consideration will be given to programs in Civic and Social Services and Education and The Arts, depending on available funds. Grants suspended until further notice. Click here for guidelines. Agencies awarded grant funds must complete a Follow Up Report within 30 days after completion of the project, but no later than one year after the grant was awarded. RMHC/HACER Scholarships Ronald McDonald House Charities/Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources (RMHC/HACER) program awards scholarships to graduating Hispanic high school students in New Mexico. RMHC/HACER is a partnership among Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico, McDonalds Operators Association of New Mexico, and McDonalds global charity, to provide financial assistance to promising Hispanic high school seniors planning to attend college. Each year twenty-five students are awarded $1,000 scholarships to the college of their choice. Applications are available in early November at McDonalds Restaurants or by calling the Ronald McDonald House at 505/842-8960. Deadline for submission is early February. A panel of judges made up of local educators, business people, McDonalds employees, and RMHC board members review all complete application and select twenty five students based on their grades, financial need, letter/s of recommendation and a personal statement. Funds for the RMHC/HACER Scholarships are raised through the Give a Little Love promotion held each February in the local McDonalds restaurants, as well as from matching funds from the Global RMHC charity. Donor contributions to Ronald McDonald House are not used for these allocations unless specifically designated by the donor. |
