BECOME A RONALD McDONALD HOUSE VOLUNTEER

DINNER COOKS plan a meal for about 25 people, shop and prepare food on a day of their choice. Once a month or once a year, nothing is appreciated more than home cooking around here.

The families who stay with us often return to the House after a long day at the hospital and cooking a meal for themselves may be the last thing on their minds. The chance for these families to sit down to a home cooked meal is another way that we can make this House a “home away from home” for those who need it most.

Here are some meal guidelines:

1. Make dishes simple: casseroles, meat loaf, tacos, soups, spaghetti, salads, breads, desserts. Meals that both adults and children enjoy are the most appreciated.

2. Plan to cook for approximately 25 – 30 people. The House contains18 guestrooms and the number of occupants varies per room.

3. Please be aware that not all families show up at once to eat. Perhaps two or three families will appear at the outset, with other families trickling in as the evening progresses. Leftovers rarely survive lunch the next day!

4. The best time to have dinner ready is about 6 p.m. You may arrive as early as you think is necessary to do the preparation.

5. We urge groups to cook on site. The kitchens are well equipped with pots, bake ware and cooking utensils. If food preparation occurs off-site, please use caution in preparing, storing and transporting food items.

6. Breakfast and lunch meals are appreciated as well.
